Some places are local traditions and for good reason. Never had a bad experience. Sometimes there is a long wait - it is well worth it. Food is excellent, service great, and the manager is a total delight. They really care about maintaining their reputation and living up to expectations.
MoreFood was amazing, service was awful. We had a party of 3, got skipped on the waiting list before we reminded them we were here & needed to be sat.Once we were finally sat after waiting an hour for our "20 min wait", we ordered pretty much right away.We noticed multiple tables who ordered after us getting their food before us, it had been 45 min. One of us checked in with our server (she wasn't checking in with us), they were going to check on it. They had skipped us again! The orders came out, lots of stuff missing, lots of stuff wrong (because they rushed it). We had a very underwhelming experience. I don't know if I will be back anytime soon, or ever. For me the place did not live up to the hype. 2.5 hours could have been well spent elsewhere & no discounts were offered for the inconveniences.
MoreI've finally made a point to visit, and I don't know why I hadn't gone there sooner. The breakfast I ordered was huge, with giant link sausages and perfectly done sunny-side up eggs (the gold standard of egg cooking skills). The pancakes were nice and fluffy, as well as delicious. Red-skin potatoes came with it, too. To top this experience off, the service was excellent. I can't wait to come back, maybe for lunch next time.
MoreOne of the best neighborhood restaurants you will find in GR. Always been popular place, but years ago it use to feel like a secret. Now everyone i talk to knows of westsiders. I've never had a bad meal here. Plan for crowds if going on weekend or go early.
MoreLove the polish menu. Just like my grandparents used to make!
We stopped here for brunch before taking our Grand Rapids Brewery tour. Fabulous food and cozy atmosphere! Couldn't pass up the chance to try Dill Pickle Soup and so glad I got it...delicious! Everything we ordered was super yummy and I had enough from my corned beef hash dish to box up for tomorrow! My husband polished off his Lemon-Poppyseed waffles along with everything else he ordered! Absolutely worth the stop! Staff was all extremely friendly and attentive!
MoreReally good food. Excellent in house corned beef hash with the right amount of funk and meaty bits, potatoes grilled up perfectly, that odd but good dill pickle soup, a little fruit garnish, servers hard at it and cheery. Pick an odd hour to go so you aren't crowded in or frozen out by the influx of patrons. The prices are average, the food is a notch above.
MoreAlways great best breakfast sausages 😆 i swear
Very friendly staff food was out standing and hugs huge portions for the prices. Will definitely come back again.
MoreAn excellent choice for breakfast/brunch! I always leave feeling not only satisfied, but happy to have spent my time here - and I never am left without leftovers! The prices are competitive, and the dishes are inventive. Waitresses are quick, friendly, knowledgeable, and quite personable. You feel cared about here. It's a busy atomosphere, and space can sometimes be tight, but I like that homestyle feel.
MoreSome of the best food around. Prefer here over any other breakfast restaurant Ive gone to. Staff is always friendly and I always leave feeling full and satisfied!
MoreWas in Grand Rapids this weekend for a little beer vacation. This morning we were ready to head back home and stopped at Westsider Cafe for breakfast before hitting the road. I can't say enough good things. The staff was friendly and the service was excellent. The food was made to order, hot and delicious. The portions were LARGE. And the prices were more than reasonable especially when you consider the portions. What a great experience. If I'm ever back in Grand Rapids, this will be my daily breakfast stop. Great job Westsider! Your staff deserves a big pat on the back.
MoreLoved the Westsider! The only negative I can think of is that it's taken me so long to finally come here. The portions are just as you'd expect a westside joint to be (big!) and the food is delicious. I found their breakfast sausage links particularly good. It feels old school and I really enjoyed that. The waitstaff was friendly and prompt.
MoreThe Westsider embodies the west side of GR in a breakfast place - diverse, blue collar, and unapologetically unchanged. Their menu features Polish, American, and Cuban food all done to perfection. I would highly recommend anything on the menu but the Polish food is my favorite - dat kraut doe!Service is always spot on and you will be waiting on the weekends. The Westsider lives up to its name and it is one of the staple breakfast joints in GR that are always top notch!
MoreWe recently moved to the West Side (and love brunch), and quickly found this amazing & underrated breakfast spot. The food is always great, and the service is quick & friendly. My favorite part though is that they put the west side spirit into every aspect of the cafe: old maps of Grand rapids on the walls, menu specials named after streets and neighborhoods, and an overall welcoming atmosphere. Plus, the prices are great! I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to get brunch that is a little off the beaten path and won't break the bank.
MoreAs soon as you walk in you feel welcome. It has a great neighborhood cafe vibe. They have several specials every day and they are always good. The owner, Fran, knows many of the customers and greets them by name when they come in. I always feel welcome when I eat here.
MoreWestsider is part of the social landscape of west GR. It's a staple of the community and some of the best breakfast in the city. Breakfast and lunch are equally great. My recommendation is to get a skillet or omelette, but the whole menu is excellent. If you're there for lunch you must get some dill pickle soup. Just trust me.Pictured here: #3 skillet, toasted biscuit, and sausage chorizo jalapeno omelette.
MoreFirst time visiting after coworkers suggested we go. I had a club sandwich with fries my hubby had a philly cheese sandwich. Very tasty. Everything was fresh and good. The club sandwich was thick and juicy. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive.
MoreGood food and location but the management does not seem to care well for their employees. Hard to respect an establishment like that. Other comments can vouch.
MoreFran and the Crew do Amazing Food! Always Happy to see you! Biscuits and Gravy are da bomb! 😎
MoreThis was our first visit as a recommendation by co-workers. We enjoyed our visit. The atmosphere is homey and quaint. Service is quick and attentive. The owner stopped by and checked on us. We had the Club Sandwich with Fries and Philly Cheesesteak with Onion Rings. We had Water and Ice Tea. Our bill was $24.01, so the prices are a bit high, but the food is good quality. They use fresh ingredients, and it was all tasty. This is a nice, locally owned, comfortable cafe. Worth a visit while in the area.
MoreEvery time I walk into Westsider Cafe I am greeted warmly and the service there is top notch. They offer great menu options with a local flair that makes it more than just a regular joe breakfast spot. I have truly enjoyed every meal I ordered. You may have to wait on the weekends but it is WELL worth the time.
MoreGreat service, fun food😁
My first visit, second for my husband. We were seated promptly (though the line was longer when we left). The menu is a mix of classics with a few twists. My quiche was delicious and the perfect texture. It came with a nice side of very fresh fruit. I opted for a biscuit instead of a muffin and it was tasty. My friend chose the Philly steak skillet, which he enjoyed. Service was friendly. Coffee was plentiful. We'll be back.
MoreA wonderful place to eat. Not a chain restaurant and the taste shows, so yummy. I can eat a lot of food and each time I have ordered a skillet I needed a to-go box, so large portions. Seems to me a mix between American, German and Polish fare, just like the surrounding neighborhoods. Main plates run between $8-$14 with cheaper smaller plates. They offer a kids' menu. Wonderful food with a great mom's and pop's small neighborhood atmosphere.
MoreGreat West Side eatery. Fabulous Food, Friendly staff, generous portions! We have not been disappointed when ordering something different from the menu. If you visit and happen to wait, be patient because it is worth it! Highly Recommended.
MoreLove the daily quiche! I'm sure the other menu items are fantastic but I wouldn't know because the quiche is so good I never order anything else.
MoreGreat little place for a morning breakfast. Good food & great wait staff. Would recommend to family & friends.
